Homeschool Thank You Note Class
Experience the skills and obligations of proper young ladies in the 1800’s through the exploration and the art of writing a proper thank you note. Home school students are invited to attend this special class on thank you notes at Oaklands Historic House Museum on January 14, 2010. Lessons such as format and content of a thank you note and addressing an envelope will be taught. The class will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon, on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Oaklands Historic House Museum. Admission is $5.00 per person (children and adults over age 5). The Language of Love and Courtship
Did you know that Victorian Valentines could cost as much as a day rental for a carriage? Oaklands Historic House Museum tours feature a month-long program that explores the courtship customs of the Victorian Era. The romantic language of flowers and fans, as well as the rules of engagement for courting will be presented on daily tours by the museum docents. The program is open to the public and worth seeing by all. Regular admission rates apply. Homeschool Victorian Courtship Customs Class
Feel the romance at Oaklands in the 1800’s when sweethearts were chaperoned, candies with printed messages were exchanged between boys and girls, and couples danced at elegant soirees. Home school students are invited to attend this special class on Victorian courting customs at Oaklands Historic House Museum on either February 11 or 12, 2010. Customs such as the Language of the Flower, the Language of the Fan, and period love letters will be explored.
The class will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon, on Thursday, February 11 and 12, 2010, at Oaklands Historic House Museum. Admission is $5.00 per person (children and adults over 5 years of age). Days of Washing, Churning, & Learning
Teachers and parents can plan a day of hands-on-activities, demonstrations, crafts, and games. From 9:00am – 1:00pm, children can come and experience chores from the 1860’s when they wash clothes on a washboard, make candles, churn butter, and beat the rugs. An Elegant Evening with Cocktails and Dinner

RUTHERFORD COUNTY HERITAGE DAY CAMP

Oaklands Historic House Museum and Sam Davis Home
Children ages 6 through 12 will have a chance to step back into the past during Rutherford County Heritage Day Camp at Oaklands Historic House Museum in Murfreesboro and at the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna. This enriching day camp will take place on June 3 & 4, 2010. On June 3, children will meet at the Sam Davis Home and experience the rich history of the house and grounds and then will visit the elegant mansion at Oaklands on June 4. Children will have an opportunity to learn the rich history of the only two historic house museums in Rutherford County through being introduced to the Davis and Maney families and their lives during the Civil War and living on a plantation. The children will tour each house and grounds, make crafts, and play games. They will enjoy traveling back through time to experience life as a visitor in the nineteenth century. Tuition is $20. This cost covers supplies used during the week and a snack each day. The camp runs from 9:00 a.m.-12 noon. A camp registration form must be received by May 26, 2010. Oaklands Victorian Craft Camp
Children ages 6 through 12 will experience hands-on materials and craft making during this new camp offered at Oaklands Historic House Museum June 14-16, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon. Tuition is $50. This cost covers supplies used during the week and a snack each day. A camp registration form must be received by June 7, 2010.

Front Porch Pastimes Day Camp
Children ages 6 through 12 will have a chance to step back into the past while being introduced to period games, chores, crafts, and cooking. The camp will be from 9:00 am - 12 noon and there are limited spaces. Reservations are required and are currently being accepted.

Antebellum Academy presented by Oaklands Historic House Museum

Oaklands Candlelight Tour of Homes
Usher in the holiday season with an enchanting tour of historic homes. The annual Oaklands Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The tour, sponsored by the Oaklands Association, will feature beautiful and historic private homes and the graceful Oaklands Historic House Museum. Set in the historic district of Murfreesboro, stops along the delightful tour will be festively adorned historical homes and churches, dressed in holly and evergreens. Additionally, the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Murfreesboro Camp #33 will present living history demonstrations on the lawn of the mansion. Admission is charged. Homeschool Holiday Tour
Homeschool students are invited to visit Oaklands mansion for the holidays. On December 9, 2010 from 10am to noon, we will offer the Victorian Holiday Customs tour. This will include a tour of the mansion decorated for the holidays and customs from the 1800's. Students will also make a period ornament to take home. The cost is $5 per person (children and adults over 5 years of age). Reservations are required and space is limited.
