Rutherford County Heritage Day Camp
MURFREESBORO, TN –Children ages 6
through 12 will have a chance to step back into the past during
Rutherford County Heritage Day Camp at Oaklands Historic House Museum in
Murfreesboro and at the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna. This enriching day
camp will take place on June 3-4, 2010. On June 3rd, children will meet
at the Sam Davis Home and experience the rich history of the house and
grounds and then will visit the elegant mansion at Oaklands on June 4th.
Children will have an opportunity
to learn the rich history of the only two historic house museums in
Rutherford County through being introduced to the Davis and Maney
families and their lives during the Civil War and living on a
plantation. The children will tour each house and grounds, make crafts,
and play games. They will enjoy traveling back through time to
experience life as a visitor in the nineteenth century.
Tuition is $20. This cost covers
supplies used during the week and a snack each day. The camp runs from
9:00 a.m.-12 noon. A camp registration form must be received by
May 26, 2010. Space is limited and reservations can be made by calling Oaklands at

Oaklands Historic House Museum,
located at 900 North Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro, Tennessee is a
nationally registered historic landmark that reflects a time of
prosperity in the Old South, as well as the hardships suffered during
the Civil War.
The Sam Davis Home and Museum,
located at 1399 Sam Davis Road in Smyrna, circa 1820, features original
furniture and homespun décor enjoyed in the 19th century. Exhibits
include the Civil War in Middle Tennessee, Sam Davis, Slavery in Middle
Tennessee, and Life After the War.
